Vishal was born to G. K. Reddy and Janaki Devi on 29 August 1977 in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. Vishal is the younger son of the film producer, G. K. Reddy.
He has an elder brother named Vikram Krishna who is an actor and a producer and a sister named Aishwarya.

Vishal obtained his secondary education from Don Bosco Matriculation Higher Secondary School and later he studied Visual Communications at Loyola College, Chennai.
He initially appeared in the movie Jadikketha Moodi which was released in the year 1989 but however he played his lead role in the romantic thriller chellamae (2004) which was directed by Gandhi, and the soundtrack was composed by Harris Jayraj and this film was also dubbed in the Telugu language.
He then played his role in the film named Sandakozhi (2005) with N. lingusamy, which gained him a huge audience and people started to view him as an action hero and reviews were positive for the film.
But this success didn’t last long for Vishal as his next film a political drama action was a failure. But his next film directed by Hari, a family action movie thamirabarani gained back a lot of audiences and was a hit at the box office.
And then he acted in the films thoranai and theeradha vilaiyattu pillai which was a bilingual film produced both in Tamil as well as Telugu language but however it failed to gain an audience in the Telugu language but then on he went on to work lot of films and most of them not just gained positive reviews but also become a commercial hit, thereby creating a huge fan base.
He also went to become a host in the program called Sun Naam Oruvar which was telecasted on Sun Tv.
Vishal even tried his luck in politics where he filled nomination as an independent candidate in RK Nagar constituency, Chennai, Tamil Nadu. But however, his nomination in the RK Nagar constituency was rejected.
And not to mention Vishal won as president in the Tamil Film Producers Council (TFPC) in the year 2017 but before that year he was expelled from the council for remarks against the council. And Vishal was also arrested by police when he tried to enter TFPC forcefully.
